ATLETICO MADRID SET TO LOSE GRIEZMANN

Spanish football powerhouse Atletico Madrid are increasingly set to lose their star player Antoine Griezmann, as per reports. Despite the France international helping them to another Europa League title win, there is a strong possibility that the 27-year old will exit the La Liga side this summer.

Coach Diego Simeone says he is happy with whatever decision the player makes. Fernando Torres has gotten his farewell and is set to end his stay at the club while two other attackers were shipped out in January. With Diego Costa still at the club, and Atletico having options, they could still manage if Griezmann left even though it would surely hurt them.

There are strong indications that Barcelona will get Griezmann and it would come at a good bargain as his release clause is only £88 million. While it is still a huge bargain for Atletico that got the player from Real Sociedad in 2014 for £23.7 million, it is a better deal for Barcelona in this very inflated transfer market.

Griezmann has been the leading scorer each season for Atletico since he joined. His absence would surely be felt. The player admitted this recently, saying he owes a lot of his development to Diego Simeone and the club. Well, the La Liga giants have always found a way to get some other good player if any left at any time. There are even rumours that Sergio Aguero could rejoin his former club from Manchester City.

Griezmann reached yet another major final with Atleti, grabbing a brace to seal the 3-0 victory over Marseille this time. He said he was determined to avoid the errors of 2016 where he lost a penalty kick to hand Real Madrid the Champions League title. The Europa is his first major title with the club, and it could very well be his last.
