Manchester United’s quest to sign players this summer has seen them linked with a possible move for Atletico Madrid’s midfield star Saul Niguez. The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the Atletico Madrid star and were also linked with a move for him last summer even though they did not make any significant offer for him

Saul is one of Diego Simeone’s favorite players at Atletico and it would have to take a lot of money and convincing for him to allow the midfield star to leave them in the summer. United are currently packed in the midfield position, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Nemanja Matic, Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay, and Juan Mata all battling it out for a midfield role, and it remains unknown why they are still in the market for another midfielder.

Perhaps they are preparing for life after Paul Pogba who has constantly been linked with an Old Trafford exit as he reportedly fancies a move to Real Madrid or a return to Juventus where he joined United from back in 2016.

Since Van de Beek joined United from Ajax last summer, the midfielder has continued to labor hard to cement a spot in the starting eleven but has not been able to do so. A deal for Saul could see United lose the Netherlands international midfielder who could become more frustrated that he would have to battle harder for a spot in the team and look to hand in a transfer request in the process.

It could also all be rumors because whenever the transfer window approaches, players get linked to clubs even though there is no serious interest. Either way, Manchester United are expected to strengthen their squad this summer but the midfield position may not be part of where they will strengthen.
